I’m at the end of my first week full-time freelancing and there is one dominant feeling I have… tranquility. I have a truck-load of work to do at the moment yet do not feel stressed as my awesome clients (who I was dealing with before leaving my job and going full-time freelance) are happy to be getting more work completed by me now than when I freelanced part time and I make sure I plan my schedule well – so I can decide to switch off in the evening and forget about work.
I plan my schedule a week in advance, set myself a minimum amount of work to do per (more…)

For the past 18 months i’ve worked for a leading global cosmetics company as a web designer which means that freelancing and working on projects such as OxCreative.com have always played second fiddle.
It’s been a difficult 18months and I have struggled to adapt with the corporate lifestyle (after previously working in a very casual environment) finding it very restrictive and suffocating and as a result my mood, lifestyle and skillet have suffered.

After what seems like a lifetime, my last day in my current (now previous) job arrived and ended. I was presented with some great opportunities but the hours were long and arduous and prevented me from working on my own projects. As of monday, I am starting my new job as a web designer for a giant global cosmetics company and I cant wait!

I love my job. I have good work equipment, great colleagues and the relaxed dress code & flexible hours are fantastic. However, we have had a lot of changes; new projects, current projects expanding and being amended and my workload is huge. It seems like a constant strain to get everything finished in order to meet deadlines and, as the only designer where I work, if I decide to take holiday it just means there is twice as much work when I get back (thus reversing any positive/stress relieving effects of a holiday!).
I’m still hoping there is “light at the end of the tunnel” in terms of workload.
The equipment on the other hand couldn’t be better and to end on a cheery note…..we recently moved the office around and thanks to Brooke and Rich, I got a lovely spacious corner desk and some drawers (this pic was taken before the drawers were put in!).
