I’m at the end of my first week full-time freelancing and there is one dominant feeling I have… tranquility. I have a truck-load of work to do at the moment yet do not feel stressed as my awesome clients (who I was dealing with before leaving my job and going full-time freelance) are happy to be getting more work completed by me now than when I freelanced part time and I make sure I plan my schedule well – so I can decide to switch off in the evening and forget about work.

It’s been a while since we’ve created a tutorial so here’s a quick Photoshop tutorial which you can do if you have Photoshop CS or higher to create a Bokeh/Particle effect – it’s similar to the blood effect tutorial we created some time ago.
Step 1
Open a new Photoshop document and set the background colour to black. We used a 1000px X 1000px document.
Create a new layer and from the brushes panel select a soft round brush – we used the 45 pixel brush (see below).
Step 2
In the brush editor, select ‘shape dynamics’ and set ‘size jitter’ to 100%. Next, (more…)

1 – Use good quality products
Whilst it’s true that a good artist should never blame his tools, it’s unlikely you will create something with a stick drawing in the mud as well as you would with good quality paper and good quality pens, pencils and markers.
