OxCreative
2011
It’s been way to long since my last post, since going freelance, I haven’t really had a great deal of spare time – and any time I have had has been working on projects that are hopefully going to be kick ass (something for you designers/developers out there).
I thought I would post an update as the site is being to look likes it’s been abandoned which definitely isn’t the case.
The current project I am working on should be launching around the end of August and then it is straight back onto the Oxcreative Re-design.
If there is anything you would like to see more/less of on the OxCreative site, or would like to see something specifically in terms of the actual design please let me know

My second week into full time freelancing and things are moving along. I am getting through projects that, when I was freelancing part-time in the evening, would have taken me weeks as opposed to days.
I am enjoying the flexibility that if I have had a late night, I can (more…)

I’m at the end of my first week full-time freelancing and there is one dominant feeling I have… tranquility. I have a truck-load of work to do at the moment yet do not feel stressed as my awesome clients (who I was dealing with before leaving my job and going full-time freelance) are happy to be getting more work completed by me now than when I freelanced part time and I make sure I plan my schedule well – so I can decide to switch off in the evening and forget about work.
I plan my schedule a week in advance, set myself a minimum amount of work to do per (more…)

For the past 18 months i’ve worked for a leading global cosmetics company as a web designer which means that freelancing and working on projects such as OxCreative.com have always played second fiddle.
It’s been a difficult 18months and I have struggled to adapt with the corporate lifestyle (after previously working in a very casual environment) finding it very restrictive and suffocating and as a result my mood, lifestyle and skillet have suffered.
After a lot of thought and financial calculations I have decided to take the plunge into the big bad world of freelancing! It’s something I have wanted to do for a while and believe it is the best move (more…)

For those of you who are tech-savvy, designers, Apple fans or have been even been online in the last few weeks, you would have seen or read at least one thing about Apple’s magical mystical update of it’s iPhone, the iPhone 4. Those of you who bought an iPhone 4 or have seen the news since its’ launch will know there has been a lot of unhappy people when it comes to signal and even more after Steve Jobs offered the wonderful tip of ‘just don’t hold your phone like that’.
A few ideas and questions have been swimming around in my head and I am starting to wonder if Apple knew of the issues with signal before they sold the iPhone 4 and had foreseen the unhappy consumers and woes ahead. There are two things primarily make me think this (more…)

As many of you know, we are having what we consider ‘extreme weather’ in the UK. I am in Hampshire, which seems to be hit pretty badly – there is 3-4 inches of snow outside sitting on top of 2 inches of slush/ice and it is still snowing pretty heavy!
Anyway, I went out into the garden and up on the roof last night as there was an eerie orange glow where the clouds and snow had trapped the light pollution and though I would share some pictures (these were taken around 9.30pm at night!):
These are some plant pots snowed over in the garden (more…)

Ok so we’re a little slow of the mark but Happy New Year from us all! We hope everyone had a good year in 2009 (Year of the OX!) but we hope you have an even better year in 2010.
I’ve been thinking about a few things that I would like to achieve in 2010. Whilst these are really specific to OxCreative, they are things that I think most of us could try to embrace:
1. Write more Blog Posts
More blog posts equals more content. More content equals more traffic. More traffic means lots of interaction, followers and good networking! It would be nice to start interacting with those in the community and so we are looking to (more…)

I try to avoid ranting within the OxCreative blog but I stumbled upon a document that really annoyed me. Whilst studying at the University of Portsmouth I competed in their “enterprise challenge for business” in 2005.
My business idea was to set up a creative agency which would source external work and give students and supply it to freelancing students. The agency would allocate the work and project managed each task (overseeing and ensuring it is to a high standard). For the project management and finding of work, the agency would take a slice of the revenue and would be self-sufficient and eventually profitable. (more…)
