For those of you who are tech-savvy, designers, Apple fans or have been even been online in the last few weeks, you would have seen or read at least one thing about Apple’s magical mystical update of it’s iPhone, the iPhone 4. Those of you who bought an iPhone 4 or have seen the news since its’ launch will know there has been a lot of unhappy people when it comes to signal and even more after Steve Jobs offered the wonderful tip of ‘just don’t hold your phone like that’.
A few ideas and questions have been swimming around in my head and I am starting to wonder if Apple knew of the issues with signal before they sold the iPhone 4 and had foreseen the unhappy consumers and woes ahead. There are two things primarily make me think this (more…)

It’s been 2 months exactly since my last post and its been a busy 8 weeks (I’ve definitely been neglecting OxCreative.com!)
So much has changed and it seems like a lifetime ago I had any time to even consider posting on the site, playing some PS3 or even finding time to read. This is mainly all down to one thing… Ralphy!
We’ve had Ralphy for 7 weeks (since he was 7 weeks old!) and boy oh boy is he a handful. Now you may be thinking “I just see a picture of a cute puppy sleeping – he doesn’t look that bad!?!”
That’s mainly because it’s the only time I can get my camera out, the rest of the time i’m stopping him digging in the mud, chewing flowers, chewing shoes, chewing stones, hell the other day I even caught him chewing (more…)

We caught up with our first place winner of the Letraset competition we ran a few months ago.
The ever-so funky Holly Stanway was the lucky winner of a 24-piece Letraset Tria Visualization kit with a bleedproof marker pad.

Holly is an Illustrator & artist working with everything from pens & paints to fabric & textiles. If you’re looking for an interesting read, or want some instructables on making somethings yourself, check out Holly’s blog alittlestranger.com.

As many of you know, we are having what we consider ‘extreme weather’ in the UK. I am in Hampshire, which seems to be hit pretty badly – there is 3-4 inches of snow outside sitting on top of 2 inches of slush/ice and it is still snowing pretty heavy!
Anyway, I went out into the garden and up on the roof last night as there was an eerie orange glow where the clouds and snow had trapped the light pollution and though I would share some pictures (these were taken around 9.30pm at night!):
These are some plant pots snowed over in the garden (more…)

Ok so we’re a little slow of the mark but Happy New Year from us all! We hope everyone had a good year in 2009 (Year of the OX!) but we hope you have an even better year in 2010.
I’ve been thinking about a few things that I would like to achieve in 2010. Whilst these are really specific to OxCreative, they are things that I think most of us could try to embrace:
1. Write more Blog Posts
More blog posts equals more content. More content equals more traffic. More traffic means lots of interaction, followers and good networking! It would be nice to start interacting with those in the community and so we are looking to (more…)

I’ve been with O2 for a very long time, in fact, since I have owned a mobile phone (it was BT cellnet back then, then Genie ( a subsidiary of BT Cellnet) and then it merged/got bought out and became O2 across Europe.
Now, I try to avoid blogging my rants but I read something today that really ‘took the biscuit’. It was an article on ITProPortal about Ronan Dunne and how he apologises for the poor o2 network coverage in London where people have been ‘unable to make calls’. Mr Dunne claims it is mainly due to that fact that smartphones (i.e. iPhone etc) using alot of data (more…)

It’s been a while since we’ve created a tutorial so here’s a quick Photoshop tutorial which you can do if you have Photoshop CS or higher to create a Bokeh/Particle effect – it’s similar to the blood effect tutorial we created some time ago.
Step 1
Open a new Photoshop document and set the background colour to black. We used a 1000px X 1000px document.
Create a new layer and from the brushes panel select a soft round brush – we used the 45 pixel brush (see below).
Step 2
In the brush editor, select ’shape dynamics’ and set ’size jitter’ to 100%. Next, (more…)

A few months back we ran a competition to get featured on OxCreative.com and whilst we had truckloads of entries, we could only pick one winner – the wonderful Kazumi Hirota.
Now it’s your chance to get some free exposure and get featured on OxCreative.com. All you need to do is send us an email with some examples of your work before 14th December 2009 and you could be featured on the site in January 2010!
Send your work to info@oxcreative.com and one lucky winner will be our main feature throughout January!
Good Luck!

I received some lovely Letraset Tria Markers and so after using them for a couple of weeks here’s what i’ve found.
The Letraset Tria Markers are Letraset’s professional marker range. After using the Tria’s, I found they were equal in terms of smoothness moving on paper and consistency/smoothness in colour & coverage as the Promarkers, but where they top the Promarkers in in their customisation and colours. There are various nibs available and they can be chopped and changed as (more…)
